KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15, (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent a cable on Wednesday to King Hamad bin Issa Al-Khalifa of Bahrain, expressing sincere congratula­tions to Bahrain’s national team on their win of West Asian Football Championsh­ip 2019, hosted by the Republic of Iraq.

His Highness the Amir praised the distinguis­hed performanc­e by the Bahraini team during the competitio­n, in addition to the high spirit of all participat­ing teams.

His Highness the Amir praised great efforts exerted by the Republic of Iraq and preparatio­ns that came along to ensure success of this tournament.

His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber AlMubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah sent similar cables of congratula­tions on the occasion. Bahrain won the Cup after defeating Iraq 1-0.

Bahrain’s Essa Ali scored in the 38th minute to help his country win the tournament for the first time in their history.

The Bahraini team reached the final after leading Group B with seven points from a win over Jordan and another against Kuwait and a draw with Saudi Arabia.

The tournament was launched on July 30 with the participat­ion of nine teams divided into two groups, the first included Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Lebanon, while the second included Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
