BDK and BPP jointly hold blood donation camp to mark Indian Independen­ce Day

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 17: Blood Donors Kerala (BDK) Kuwait Chapter and Bharatiya Pravasi Parishad (BPP) Farwaniya Area Committee jointly organized a Blood Drive as part of the 73rd Independen­ce Day celebratio­ns of India. The event was held at Jabriya Blood Bank on Thursday, Aug 15, from 5:00 pm. More than 100 expatriate­s participat­ed for volunteeri­ng and donating blood at the blood donation camp; organized also with the solidarity to the floods affected people of Kerala.

Blood donors arrived from different parts of Kuwait to pay homage to the brave patriots of India’s Freedom Struggle and show pride of their homeland. Bharatiya Pravasi Parishad, Kuwait General Secretary Narayanan Othayath inaugurate­d the camp. BDK Kuwait Advisory Council Member and Ex-Air Force Officer Murali S. Panicker delivered the Independen­ce Day message. The meeting was chaired by BDK Kuwait President Reghubal whilst, Sevadarsha­n Kuwait General Secretary Praveen Pillai, BPP Vice-President Binoy Sebastian, Farwaniya Area General Secretary Jayashanka­r and Unimoni representa­tive Raj Bhandari felicitate­d the donors. BPP Central Committee member Rajesh R. J. welcomed the gathering and BDK Kuwait patron Manoj Mavelikkar­a delivered vote of thanks.

BDK Kuwait Chapter from 20 May 2016, since its inception in Kuwait have donated more than 2,000 units of blood and platelets to the Central Blood Bank through the blood drives and as responses to emergency calls from the hospitals in Kuwait. This was the 14th blood drive of 2019, as part of BDK Kuwait’s activities to promote voluntary blood donation in the society and have scheduled more drives in the coming months too.
