Environment protection in Kuwait remains top concern, says minister
Kuwait hosts talks over environ conservation
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9, (KUNA): It is imperative to ensure the protection of the environment given the fact that it is among the most enduring signals of humanity, said a minister on Monday.
Kuwait is eager to work closely with global bodies, including the United Nations, in efforts to guarantee a healthy and sustainable environment, Minister of State for Economic Affairs Mariam Al-Aqeel said amid Kuwaithosted talks over environment conservation.
Addressing member states of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the minister emphasized that cooperation is the most reliable strategy to ensure that environmental goals ultimately come to fruition.
Highlighting the importance of such gatherings, IUCN president Zhang Xinsheng said the talks provide a chance to assess and re-evaluate plans, pinpointing water scarcity and climate change as the most perennial environmental challenges.
Jordan’s Minister of Agriculture and Environment Ibrahim Shahahdeh pointed out that it is incumbent upon national governments to throw their weight behind environment conservation efforts, if for no other reason than to guarantee the betterment of future generations.
On the talks, Kuwait’s director general of the Environment Public Authority Sheikh Abdullah Al-Humoud Al-Sabah revealed that more than 100 officials have assembled for the forum, with the common goal of protecting the environment particularly in Asia.
Any environment conservation plan will prove futile if people are not cognizant of the necessity to protect the environment and ensure their well being, he added.
