KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9, (KUNA): His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak AlHamad Al-Sabah Monday expressed great relief for the well-being of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

His Highness the Prime Minister, while chairing a weekly Cabinet meeting at Seif Palace, briefed the ministers about admission of His Highness the Amir to the hospital and prayed to Allah the Almighty to bestow His blessing upon His Highness the Amir to continue his “normal activity,” Deputy Premier and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas AlSaleh said in a statement.

Kuwaiti Minister of Amiri Diwan Affairs Ali Jarrah Al-Sabah announced on Sunday that His Highness the Amir had been admitted in a hospital in the US to complete medical checkups, thus his scheduled meeting with President Trump had been adjourned to a date to be set later.

The Cabinet, meanwhile, congratulated His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people on the fifth anniversary of the UN honoring of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad as “Humanitarian Leader,” and Kuwait as a “Humanitarian Center.”

Al-Saleh, also Acting Ministers of Interior and Finance, said the UN title was a recognition of His Highness the Amir’s humanitarian contributions throughout the years.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah briefed the Cabinet about a recent visit by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi during which the two sides discussed promotion of economic and development relations and cooperation.

Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, also acting Defense Minister, said the two countries signed cooperation agreements on the development of diplomatic skills, education and scientific research, oil, gas and petrochemicals.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr Hamed Al-Azmi briefed the Cabinet about the start of school year and noted some traffic problems at the new university campus in Al-Shadadiya. He added work was underway in coordination with the Ministry of Interior to address these issues.

The Cabinet, on the other hand, approved establishment of the northern economic zone, custom agreement with Bahrain, environment agreement with Mauritania, encouragement of direct investment with South Korea as well as anti-corruption MoU with Seoul. The government also assigned authorities concern to complete preparations for the operations of government buildings in Sabah Al-Ahmad and Al-Khairan cities.

The Cabinet has congratulated Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok on his post and the formation of the new government.

The Cabinet, in its weekly meeting, wished Hamdok success in his mission and more progress and prosperity for Sudan.

The Sudanese premier and his government were sworn in before chief justice Babakr Abbas, president of the sovereign council on Sunday.

The government, the first since removal of President Omar Al-Bashir in April, consisted of 18 ministers, including four women. The Cabinet also condemned and denounced the two suicide bombing attacks which rocked the Afghani capital Kabul recent and left several people either dead or injured. Over 26 people were killed and 161 others were wounded in the two suicide car and truck bomb attacks which exploded in Kabul on Thursday and Tuesday.

“As we condemn these two criminal acts which targeted lives of innocent people, we reiterates Kuwait’s rejection of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations regardless of its causes or motives,” the Cabinet said.

It also followed with sadness the devastating impacts of Dorian hurricane which hit several US states and Bahamas recently and caused enormous damage.

On this occasion, the Cabinet extended sincere condolences and solace to families of the victims of this natural disaster.

The Cabinet also considered the recommendation contained in the minutes of the meeting of the Legal Affairs Committee on the draft law on the establishment of the Northern Economic Zone and a draft law approving the final documents on the amendment of the articles and provisions of the Constitution and Convention of the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2010. The Council of Ministers decided to approve the two draft laws and submit them to a deputy.

The Cabinet then reviewed the recommendations received by the committee regarding the draft decrees approving a memorandum of understanding on mutual cooperation in customs affairs between the government of the State of Kuwait and the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and a draft decree approving a memorandum of understanding between the government of the State of Kuwait and the government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in the field of environment.
