Delicate surgery done

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 16: Interventional radiology, backbone and chronic pains consultant Dr Walid Al-Hajji has unveiled a new technology for treating fibrosis, affirming 90 percent success rate of such treatment.

He explained that the treatment is administered through catheterization in the coccyx after giving the patient local anesthesia. He said fibrosis is removed through catheterization and then the pain disappears. He pointed out that feeling pain in the legs after walking a long distance (neurological claudication) is one of the symptoms of fibrosis.

Meanwhile, Kuwaiti baby Noor who was born with a non-cancerous hemangioma tumor on her face between her eyes about 14 months ago underwent a delicate surgery recently which lasted for two-and-a-half hours, reports Al-Rai daily.

US media said Noor with her parents traveled about 10,000 kilometers from Kuwait to New York State to meet the specialist dermatologist Dr Gregory Levitin, who diagnosed her condition at Mount Sinai Hospital before Nour was subjected to a delicate operation which was very successful that the child’s parents were so excited that they felt relieved as if a big burden from their shoulders had been lifted.

In statements to the New York Daily News, the parents of the beautiful baby said their happiness has doubled after they noticed that the ‘mark’ had considerably diminished and that their tiny tot had been recovering quickly since the operation.

Dr Levitin said that the case of the child Noor is relatively rare. He explained that the impact of the remaining wound after surgery will gradually recede within 3 to 4 weeks but must undergo laser treatment thereafter.

“It will take some time for the wound to heal completely,” he said. “I expect her to become completely normal when she reaches school age.”
