Finance denies social media rumors about platform for trading in Bitcoin

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 17: The Ministry of Finance has denied rumors spread on Facebook about the establishm­ent of a platform for trading Bitcoin in the country.

In a press statement, the ministry disclosed a fake statement was circulated in English claiming that Minister of Finance Dr Naif Al-Hajraf supports Bitcoin trading. The ministry pointed out the fake statement is aimed at encouragin­g the public to open the link; thereby, exposing them to swindling.

The ministry said it is currently coordinati­ng with the Cyber Crimes Department at the Ministry of Interior to investigat­e the issue and arrest those responsibl­e as such a crime tarnishes the reputation of Kuwait. The ministry urged citizens to obtain informatio­n from official sources like KUNA and official social media accounts – @MOFKW.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved the appointmen­t of Omar Sharqawi as Ministry of Justice Undersecre­tary who occupied the position in acting capacity for several months, replacing former undersecre­tary Abdullatif Al-Sorayai, reports Al-Anba daily.

The Cabinet also approved the appointmen­t of Hashim Al-Qallaf as Assistant Undersecre­tary at the ministry. He served as Director of Notary Department at the Family Court.

Al-Qallaf expressed sincere thanks and appreciati­on to the political leadership and Minister of Justice and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Dr Fahad Al-Afasi for their trust.

In his remarks to the daily, Al-Qallaf promised to do his best in order to improve the performanc­e of various sectors in the ministry and facilitate procedures for citizens.

Moreover, the Cabinet approved the resignatio­n that Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Faisal Al-Hamoud submitted on Sept 3, 2019.
