President el-Sisi commends Kuwaiti-Egyptian relations

Kuwaiti official highlights goal to end poverty in Arab states

CAIRO, Sept 17, (KUNA): Egyptian President Abdel Fattah elSisi praised Monday the strong Kuwaiti-Egyptian brotherly ties.

The Egyptian presidency spokespers­on Bassam Radhi said that during the meeting of el-Sisi with Kuwait’s Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and recent regional developmen­ts.

President el-Sisi conveyed his greetings to His Highness the Amir, wishing him a long healthy life, and also mentioned the historic Egyptian-Kuwaiti relations and stressing on the need for continuous cooperatio­n between the two sides.

El-Sisi noted that these bonds were boosted during his visit to Kuwait in August.

On his part, Speaker Al-Ghanim conveyed greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness’ wishes for more developmen­t to Egypt.

Al-Ghanim said that Kuwait deeply appreciate­s Egypt’s political position in the Arab world, stressing on the deep historic ties between Kuwait and Egypt.

Meanwhile, it is imperative to rid the Arab region of poverty particular­ly in countries plagued by conflict, said a Kuwaiti official on Monday, pointing out these nations usually grapple with the highest rates of malnutriti­on.

The Arab Planning Institute’s (API) Director General Dr Bader Malallah made the remarks amid pan-Arab talks over efforts to exterminat­e poverty, saying the matter has morphed into a global scourge that transcends the Arab region.

He dispelled the notion that population growth is among the causes of widespread poverty, pinpointin­g the culprit as an amalgam of social and economic factors.

Eliminatin­g poverty is the focal point of sustainabl­e developmen­t plans and API is in the midst of putting together a “comprehens­ive strategy” to address the problem from a regional perspectiv­e, he added.
