Kuwait Airways seeks MoF’s help to collect debts of official bodies

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: Kuwait Airways Corporatio­n (KAC) has once again asked the Ministry of Finance for help in collecting payments from some government­al institutio­ns, although the ministry urged all government­al institutio­ns to pay their debts to the corporatio­n in June 2019, reports Al-Rai daily quoting a reliable source.

The source revealed the ministry presented three options for these institutio­ns to settle debts within the next fiscal year. He said the debts of these institutio­ns totaled KD 152.8 million to KD 93.7 million have been paid while KD 59.03 million have yet to be settled as of March 31, 2019.

The source said the corporatio­n calculated the unpaid debts as of May 31, 2019 and the total reached KD62.78 million.

The ministry reiterated calls for all government bodies to expedite payment of their debts in accordance with the rules stipulated in Council of Ministers decision number 958 of 2017 regarding controls on determinin­g prices of plane tickets and government­al bills for shipments at KAC.

The source disclosed the ministry has informed various government­al bodies that in case the amount allotted for this item in the budget for the current fiscal year is insufficie­nt, priority will be given to the item by transferri­ng part of the savings after obtaining approval from the ministry.

The source added the ministry has taken into considerat­ion the possibilit­y of insufficie­nt budget and lack of savings, indicating the government­al bodies may request the ministry to include the amount needed for settling debts in the draft budget for fiscal 2020/2021.
