Kuwait Airways seeks MoF’s help to collect debts of official bodies

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 22: Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) has once again asked the Ministry of Finance for help in collecting payments from some governmental institutions, although the ministry urged all governmental institutions to pay their debts to the corporation in June 2019, reports Al-Rai daily quoting a reliable source.

The source revealed the ministry presented three options for these institutions to settle debts within the next fiscal year. He said the debts of these institutions totaled KD 152.8 million to KD 93.7 million have been paid while KD 59.03 million have yet to be settled as of March 31, 2019.

The source said the corporation calculated the unpaid debts as of May 31, 2019 and the total reached KD62.78 million.

The ministry reiterated calls for all government bodies to expedite payment of their debts in accordance with the rules stipulated in Council of Ministers decision number 958 of 2017 regarding controls on determining prices of plane tickets and governmental bills for shipments at KAC.

The source disclosed the ministry has informed various governmental bodies that in case the amount allotted for this item in the budget for the current fiscal year is insufficient, priority will be given to the item by transferring part of the savings after obtaining approval from the ministry.

The source added the ministry has taken into consideration the possibility of insufficient budget and lack of savings, indicating the governmental bodies may request the ministry to include the amount needed for settling debts in the draft budget for fiscal 2020/2021.
