KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: The parliamentary Family Affairs Committee on Tuesday approved a compilation of important proposals on family abuse, resulting in a comprehensive draft law which will be submitted before the upcoming legislative round.
Committee Rapporteur MP Muhammad Al-Dallaal disclosed that the bill aims to link all family related laws in order to make them more effective and manageable in courts, particularly articles which address ‘verbal exchanges’ between family members.
On the other hand, Committee Chairperson MP Safaa Al-Hashem affirmed that the panel is keen on enacting legislation covering all family concerns, especially abuse, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Social Affairs and High Council for Family.
The proposals include implementation of a State program to raise public awareness on family values and prevention of abuse, as well as the establishment of a judicial department with a hotline which will receive reports and complaints while keeping the identities of involved individuals confidential.

Court of First Instance, which acquitted a citizen of attacking his colleague at a ministry, says AlSeyassah.
The Public Prosecution charged the citizen with physical attack on his colleague who sustained injuries as stated in medical reports from a hospital and Forensics. The prosecution urged the court to punish him according to Article 2/162 of the Penal Code.
However, Attorney En’am Haider argued for the defendant saying there was no strong evidence to prove that her client attacked the plaintiff. She pointed out the inconsistencies in the technical report and testimonies of witnesses indicating that the plaintiff had long been planning to set up her client.
