10 percent surplus textbooks printed: MoE

‘Sector plans after addressing Supply

-

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7: Educational sources affirmed that a request was submitted by Educational Research and Curriculum Sector in the Ministry of Education to destroy large quantities of textbooks under the pretext that the ministry published 10 percent more than the specified number of textbooks to cover the new students and those not registered for various reasons, including the children of faculty members, Kuwaiti women, diplomats, imams, and the ministry employees, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The same sources pointed out that the research sector develops a plan to print textbooks after addressing the Department of Supply and Stores to know the number of textbooks needed, saying it also addresses the Department of Planning to know the number of students, as well as the Directorate of Planning to figure out the number of students.

This is based on the ministry’s keenness to provide textbooks to students before the beginning of each academic year and to ensure progression of the educational process as per the specified plan for each subject, they noted.

They explained that the mechanism of floating tenders do not match the mechanism of publishing, revising and correcting the textbooks in the absence of executive regulations to govern relevant publishing houses according to the new law. They reiterated that the textbooks are published either by floating tenders or through direct contracts depending on the kind of material to be printed.
