Construction and repairs of main roads in various parts of country underway: PART

‘Heavy traffic cause of cave-in on 6th Ring Road’

-

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7: Director General of the Public Authority for Transportation and Roads Engineer Suhaa Ashkanani revealed an ongoing road development project on the main roads in various parts of the country, which includes the first, second, third, fourth and fifth ring roads, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The project covers Fahaheel expressway (Road 30), Damascus and Cairo Streets, and the intersections on King Fahad bin Abdul-Aziz expressway (Road 40) with the aim of increasing efficiency of the major roads and better the level of services.

In response to the proposal made by Dr Hassan Kamal regarding the expansion of subsidiary exit roads for the traffic lights in order to reduce traffic congestion along the major roads and areas, he requested proposals that pinpoint exit roads and locations where such development would take place in order to conduct a study to determine the possibility of expanding them.

Meanwhile, Ashkanani addressed the Municipality concerning the Ministry of Interior’s proposal to close the entry roads to Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh on the side of Ishbiliya area. Engineer Ashkanani requested the Municipality to study the Ministry of Interior’s proposals and to inform whether it’s possible to use it or not.

Ministry of Interior’s proposals in this

regard include the expansion of subsidiary exit road from Ishbiliya to the Sixth Ring Road toward Jahra to be two lanes instead of one; closing part of the intersection towards Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, and to adjust the intersection timing to prevent trucks from entering Ishbiliyah area, and also open a U-turn under the bridge at the intersection of Sixth Ring Road and Muhammad bin Al-Qassem road as an alternative to the traffic light, which was shutdown.

Eng Suha Ashkanani said ‘mishap’ on the Sixth Ring Road opposite Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium has been completed repaired with several layers of asphalt in coordination with PART and General Traffic Department, reports Al-Anba daily.

She added, the road was repaired within a short time given the importance of the road where the mishap occurred on an important and major road, and therefore the work, despite the ease, the procedures were difficult

and thanked all citizens and residents for the cooperation.

Eng Ashkanani revealed that one of the reasons for the collapse (cave in) of the part of the road was due to heavy traffic and trucks loaded with heavy material. She went on to say, PART is seeking the help of General Traffic Department to determine the hours of traffic for trucks in the morning or even in the evening.

On the other hand, Ashkanani said PART has an urgent plan to implement the rehabilitation and development of roads in Kuwait, which will be completed next December, ie before the end of this year.

The plan includes the affected sites and roads, most notably the Sixth Ring Road, King Fahd Road and Morocco Highway.

Fears dispelled: The new draft law of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) has dispelled the fears of its

employees, following the leakage of details of the law, that the new draft is typical of military regime and called for penalties (of imprisonment and detention) and deprivation of advantages they now enjoy, such as health insurance and the right to vote in elections, reports Al-Rai daily.

The draft law, which was seen by Al-Rai, revealed there are no such articles in the law, but that it carries 22 new features for fire-fighters equal to their counterparts in the police, as the draft derives from the police law articles on leave, promotions, retirement and end of service and study leave as closest to the nature of the work of firefighters.

The Cabinet approved a draft law which is currently being discussed by the Interior and Defense Committee and the Legislative Committee of the National Assembly, before it is submitted for deliberation and voting during the next session.
