Dasman Diabetes Institute hosts ‘healthy food, healthy lifestyle’ seminar

Dasman Diabetes Institute, founded by Kuwait Foundation for the Advancemen­t of Sciences, recently hosted “Healthy Food, Healthy Lifestyle” seminar, in collaborat­ion with The Netherland­s Embassy in Kuwait. A group of local and internatio­nal profession­als delivered talks and held group work sessions during this seminar in attempts to increase awareness towards building a healthier next generation in Kuwait.

The seminar was inaugurate­d by Dr Qais Al Duwairi, Director-General of the Institute who highlighte­d the importance of hosting health education seminars and fostering internatio­nal collaborat­ions. In addition, H.E. Frans Potuyt, Ambassador, Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherland­s presented an opening speech, followed by a keynote speech by Erik Smidt, Agricultur­al Counsellor, GCC. Furthermor­e, Dr Ebaa Al Ozairi, Chief Medical Officer of the Institute, presented a lecture as well as Dr Nicola Guess, Head of Nutrition at the Institute. Moreover, Maarten Smit, Director of GMBS Business Support presented a lecture, followed by a final presentati­on by Rutger Schilpzand, Expert Food Quality Labels & Executive Director Healthy Choices Program.

This is the second collaborat­ion between the Embassy and Dasman Diabetes Institute. In 2017, the Institute hosted the “Healthy Food, Healthy Lifestyle” as a joint initiative to develop and deliver awarenessr­aising programs for healthcare profession­als, caregivers and the public. It is Dasman Diabetes Institute’s mission to address the diabetes epidemic in Kuwait through focused diabetes, research, integrated prevention, training, education and treatment.
