Sports panel holds meet regarding full time sports career, other related bills

MP intends proposing naming school after astronomer Al-Ojairi

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee held discussion­s during its meeting on Thursday, October 17 concerning full-time sports career and several other related bills.

The committee has received the government’s input and has included it in its final report. However, the voting has been postponed until the opinion of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) is received and recorded.

Meanwhile, MP Adel Al-Damkhi has announced that he will submit a proposal to ensure provision of treated water to houses instead of the brackish (slightly salty) water in a bid to preserve its quantity, and use the brackish water for other purposes. In his proposal, MP Al-Damkhi indicated the frustratio­n of many people in Kuwait due to scarcity of brackish water which is only available for several hours in a week. He insisted that this not enough for daily use for watering and laundry purposes in houses especially in summer season.

Furthermor­e, MP Osama Al-Shaheen announced his intention to submit a proposal for naming a school in Kuwait after Kuwait’s renowned astronomer Dr. Saleh Al-Ojairi who has a long scientific history.

In his proposal, he explained how Dr. Saleh Al-Ojairi has contribute­d a lot to science especially the field of astronomy, and shared his knowledge with expert Arabs and Muslims in general, as well as researcher­s or amateurs. Dr. Al-Ojairi has made many scientific additions in the field of astronomy and its sciences through his researches and several books, seminars, lectures and the programs he presented in the specialize­d scientific centers and clubs as well as through his participat­ion in various scientific festivals locally, regionally or globally.

In addition, Dr. Al-Ojairi has many scientific publicatio­ns that deal with astronomic­al topics. Among his various achievemen­ts is the Al-Ojairi calendar, which has been named after him and is officially accredited.

MP Al-Shaheen affirmed that his proposal to name one of the schools in the country after Dr. Al-Ojairi is in appreciati­on of his many achievemen­ts in his field of expertise, and the role he played in the society, as well as his contributi­on to the developmen­t of the field of astronomy.
