MoH launches nat’l campaign for optimal use of antibiotic­s

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20: The Director of Infection Prevention Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr Ahmed Al-Mutawa, has warned of the dangers of misuse of antibiotic­s, while appreciati­ng the decision of the Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basel Al-Sabah to reconstitu­te the National Committee for the rational use of antibiotic­s, to keep up with the global recommenda­tions and face challenges in the field of antibiotic­s and the spread of resistant germs, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Mutawa said in a press statement on the sidelines of the announceme­nt of the launch of the national campaign for the optimal use of antibiotic­s, he said, the Department of Infection Prevention has taken the first steps in the committee work to conduct field surveys of all hospitals in the State of Kuwait to evaluate the supervisio­n programs on the use of antibiotic­s. He explained the results of studies showed that 83 percent of hospitals and government health centers in the State of Kuwait have policies on antibiotic­s, and includes all types of antibiotic­s, the appropriat­e dose, the number of uses and duration of treatment, rates ranging between 76 to 97 percent.

On the other hand, the head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Al-Adan Hospital, Dr Abeer Al-Thaidi, revealed that the team of endoscopy unit in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Al-Adan Hospital conducted 25 minimally invasive and uterine laparoscop­ic procedures, with the participat­ion of the visiting consultant from India, Dr Harish Fazazia, a specialist in gynecology. Meanwhile,A patient suffering from a severe heart attack was rescued by doctors at the Al-Dabbous Center for Cardiology at Al-Adan Hospital, reports Al-Rai daily.
