Venezuela’s Ruez leads preliminary round

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: The 13th WBT-PBA Kuwait International Open Championship continues in its fourth day with the preliminary qualification rounds at the Kuwait Bowling Center in Salmiya.
The 2017 runners-up Eldimaro Ruez from Venezuela is leading in the preliminary round, which has reached its fifth stage, after earning 1,354 points out of 1,500. He is followed in the second place by the 2016 Asiad champion Yanafo Larbafaret from Thailand with 1,334 points, followed by Indonesia’s Beiley Islam with 1,306 points and Tony Wong from Hong Kong with 1,304 points.
The preliminary qualification stage consists of 22 rounds over a period of five days, and ends tomorrow. This will be followed by the second and third stages on Tuesday, and the third stage on Wednesday, which will also witness the finals that will determine the top three winners.
More than 100 bowlers are participating in order to win prizes worth US $218,000 of which US $50,000 will go to the top winner.
The Kuwait Bowling Center in Salmiya witnessed the inauguration of the 13th WBT-PBA Kuwait International Open, which is being held from October 31 to November
6.
The competition is considered to be the final round of the World Bowling Tour for this year. It consists of three categories — men, women and amateur, and the last one is allocated only for Kuwaitis.
According to the World Bowling Ranking for 2019, the Americans dominate in both men and female categories, with Jakob Butturff having 1,240 points, and Danielle McEwan with 2,192 points.
It is worth mentioning that the American bowler EJ Tackett, currently ranked 13, won the last year men’s league, and his compatriot Liz Johnson, currently ranked 2, won the women’s category.
