Leipzig captain Orban out until new year with knee injury

MONTREAL, Nov 14, (AP): Thierry Henry is returning to Major League Soccer to coach Montreal Impact.

Montreal says in a statement the former France and Arsenal great signed a two-year contract. until the new year, deepening an injury crisis for the German title challenger.

Leipzig says Orban has undergone an operation on his injured knee to remove a loose fragment of tissue.

That puts the defender out of six Bundesliga games and the final two games in Leipzig’s Champions League group stage campaign, at home to Benfica on Nov 27 and away to Lyon on Dec 10.

Striker Diego Costa has a neck injury that could require surgery and sideline him for about three months.

Atlético Madrid says X-rays on Thursday show Costa has a herniated cervical disc. The club says he will be evaluated by neurosurge­ry specialist­s in the next few days to decide which treatment options will be chosen.

If surgery is needed, Costa could be out for about three months.

The Brazil-born striker had been feeling discomfort in the neck and upper back area in recent days.

Bernardo Silva will miss Manchester City’s home match against Chelsea after being banned for one game for posting a tweet which compared teammate Benjamin Mendy to the character on a packet of Conguitos chocolates.

The midfielder admitted to an “aggravated breach” of rules because the post referenced race.

He was also fined 50,000 pounds ($64,000) and ordered to complete face-to-face education. The Premier League game Silva misses is on Nov 23 after the internatio­nal break against third-place Chelsea, which is immediatel­y above City.
