Will surrender on Monday

-

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 23: In a humanitarian gesture that happens only in Kuwait under orders from the top authority, Ministry of Interior allowed former MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaie to enter Kuwait without being arrested to attend his mother’s burial ceremony when she died in Turkey.

The former lawmaker is wanted by the State to serve a jail term of three years and six months in relation to the “Storming of the Parliament” case. Immediately after his arrival to the country, he thanked His Highness the Amir of Kuwait for the humanitarian gesture, which allowed him to accompany his mother’s body from Turkey to Kuwait, and to attend her funeral procession.

During the burial, Dr AlTabtabaie declared he will surrender himself to the authority on Monday after finishing the mourning period in order to serve his jail term, which is the preliminary step toward obtaining “pardon” similar to the case of his colleague, former MP Fahad Al-Khannah.

Also, he thanked the people of Kuwait who expressed their condolences, adding “these are Kuwaitis, they become more united in times of tribulations”.

Earlier, Al-Tabtabaie announced his intention to accompany the body of his mother, who was buried Friday at Suleibikhat graveyard.

“My beloved mother, Kutaibah AlShadi. You did not leave me until your last minute in this world despite your sickness. I will not leave you to return alone without me. I will accompany you on your final tour to your home country. The country you loved dearly despite not receiving salary or aid or loan or house throughout your whole life ... peace be with you to the eternal paradise”, Al-Tabtabaie tweeted.
