KUNA to open new ‘bureau’ in China to expand network
Bid to cover political, economic and trade events
BEIJING, Nov 23, (KUNA): Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) is to open its first bureau in China as part of keenness to expand its correspondents’ network abroad, KUNA’s Vice-Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Saad AlAli said Saturday.
The visit to Beijing aims to finish all procedures and arrangements necessary for the opening of the new KUNA office in Beijing, where Al-Ali praised all facilitations provided by the Chinese government in this regard.
During talks with General Director of Foreign Affairs Department of Xinhua News Agency Yuan Bingzhong, Al-Ali explained that China has become part of KUNA’s overseas’ correspondents network.
This will be followed by concrete steps to expand the Agency’s network across China to cover political, economic and trade events, he added
Al-Ali hoped that the Agency’s Beijing would be a cultural and intellectual window through which the Chinese people will learn about Kuwait and its culture, as well as contribute to the advancement of Kuwaiti-Chinese relations.
During the meeting, Al-Ali reviewed the history of media relations and cooperation between KUNA and Xinhua, which extends for more than 20 years.
He praised the remarkable development witnessed by Xinhua recently in the news sector and its use of modern technology, especially in the field of artificial intelligence to improve its various services and communicate its media message.
KUNA and Xinhua are keen to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise in the fields of audio-visual and print news, the mechanism of employing technical technologies, modern equipment and innovative means in various media sectors, he pointed out.
He also stressed media’s role in highlighting strategic relations between Kuwait and China in political, commercial and cultural spectrums, especially after the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Beijing in July 2018.
He affirmed that media cooperation is growing within the framework of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s (Belt and Road) initiative and the vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (New Kuwait 2035) on the northern economic zone (Silk City and the Kuwaiti Islands) and the strong economic, commercial and investment ties between the two countries.
For his part, Bingzhong welcomed KUNA’s opening of a new office in China, expressing his Agency’s readiness to provide all means of support for the success of KUNA.
He praised the close cooperation between the two Agencies and stressed the close and solid relations between the two countries in all fields.
