Outsourcin­g of work from the hub of fashion in developed countries to developing countries with low labour costs and even lower regulatory standards is prevalent now. Long working hours, low health and safety standards, minimum pay and deplorable and in humane working conditions are characteri­stic of the factories that churn out fast fashion. The real value of fashion is the sweat and blood of those exploited by the industry. The high carbon footprint of the fashion industry is another worrying matter, as are the resources of water and electricit­y that go into making a single T-shirt. Cheap clothes lead to bigger piles of waste with materials that take a long time to break down and degrade. Designers, brands, retailers and consumers are all equally complicit.

She defined it as finding solutions to meet the present needs while implementi­ng strategies that can safeguard the future generation’s needs as well.
