Dar Al-Athar to present organ and choir concert

Maestro Baginska and Kinga Masternak to perform

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 25: The organ and choir concert ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘Dance Music Through the Ages’ will be held on Wednesday, Nov 27, at 7 pm in the Yarmouk Cultural Centre as part of Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah’s 25th cultural season. Performers include Cantores Maiores Choir; Dr Valentina Maria Baginska, on organ and Kinga Masternak on piano.

Organ recital: ‘Dance Music through the Ages’ will comprise Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706) – Chaconne in d minor; Claude Balbastre (1724-1799) – Gavotte; Leon Boellmann (1862-1897) – Menuet gothique; Johann Strauss (1825-1899) – Waltz “Wine, Woman and Song”; Piotr Tchaikovsk­y (18401893) – Waltz from “Swan Lake”; Wojciech Osmanski (1834-1908) – White Mazur; Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) – Hungarian Dance No 5; Aram Khachaturi­an (1903-1978) – Sabre Dance.

‘The Phantom of the Opera’, which is composed by Andrew LLoyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe will consist of ‘Think of Me’; ‘The Music of the Night’; ‘Prima Donna’; ‘All I Ask of You’; ‘Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again’; ‘Learn to Be Lonely’; ‘Angel of Music’; ‘The Phantom of the Opera’.

Dr Valentina Maria Baginska is an artist with internatio­nal achievemen­ts as a conductor, concert organist, pianist, music professor, juror, lecturer and impresario. She graduated with first class honors degree from the Frederic Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, the Music Academies in Gdansk and in Riga. She perfected her virtuoso skills in prestigiou­s European music centers.

Maestro Baginska performed in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, France, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerlan­d and Ukraine during prestigiou­s internatio­nal music festivals. Dr Baginska introduced the organ into Kuwaiti music life. Since 2006 she performs organ recitals in Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyyah. She is one from the founders and a former member of DAI Music Circle Committee.

Kinga Masternak was born in Wadowice, Poland. In 2006, she graduated with honors from piano class of the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz (Poland) under Professor Katarzyna Popowa-Zydro. She has performed as a pianist-soloist and played jointly with music ensembles in Poland, Germany, France, Kuwait and Qatar.
