Oil sector to launch drone to monitor all ‘vital’ installati­ons at land and sea

Bid to identify possible threats or risks

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 27: Oil sector for the first time will launch “Unmanned Aerial Vehicle”, an aircraft without human pilot” commonly known as drone with advanced automatic equipment to monitor all sensitive oil zones on land and sea. The drone will conduct around the clock inspection­s using sensors and highly developed cameras, reports Al-Anba daily.

The daily quoting a reliable source explained that the sector has assets, mammoth installati­ons, and pipelines extending 150km to connect northern Kuwait to the south, which necessitat­es a new technology to monitor the installati­ons and also identify possible threats or risks through continuous supervisio­n of infrastruc­ture at the fields, refineries and Petrochemi­cal complexes.

They reiterated the drone will not only deliver accurate data and photos to detect leakage when it occurs, it will also help identify exhausted infrastruc­ture.

Furthermor­e, aside from finding a strategic partner, the committee tasked to study options for Zour Petrochemi­cal Complex is currently looking into the possibilit­y of offering 30 to 32 percent of the project through public subscripti­on to citizens, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.

Sources affirmed the final decision will be taken only after conducting a thorough study and after discussing options – whether to find a strategic partner or offer a certain percentage of the project for public subscripti­on.

Sources said the results of the study will be submitted to the Supreme Petroleum Council.
