Saied Ismael Behbehani presents lecture on ‘heritage and culture’
Saied Ismael Behbehani delivered a lecture on the topic of ‘Heritage and cultural argument in the protection of endangered animals, and its role in classical Arabic poems’ at the Yarmouk Cultural Centre on Wednesday evening as part of the Dar Al Athar Al Islamiyyah’s 25th cultural season.
Behbehani holds a Masters in History from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom. His research focused on the emergence of Islam in the Arab Intellectual and belief environment. The subject of his dissertation was whether the people of Mecca embraced biblical religion prior to Islam. He published the book, ‘The Monsters of the Poem’, which chronicles the role of the animals currently endangered and their role in the pre-Islamic, classical Arabic poetry in a bid to motivate their protection from extinction.
In his lecture, he discussed the current environmental and cultural importance of preserving and protecting the endangered animals. He also reviewed the environmental and natural reasons for protecting animals and plants in the planet due to the environmental imbalance or rather impact caused by the disappearance of a species or groups of them, in addition to having responsibility and cultural need for protecting animals which played a significant role in culture, poetry and art, and are presently endangered and in need of a global effort for their protection.
