Time to take sympathetic view of theater in Kuwait: Al-Nabhan

Seminar held

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 18: Artist Jassem Al-Nabhan said the members of the National Assembly and the government should “take a sympathetic view of the theatrical movement in Kuwait, especially since there are a lot of artistic talents”, indicating at the same time that a theater must be established in every governorate in addition to giving the field more for the private sector, reports Al-Rai daily.

He was speaking at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center where he was a guest on “Monday’s conversation” seminar yesterday evening inside the round hall in, where the media interviewed, critic Laila Ahmed ... was the one who insisted on appearing on time, despite his submission on the same morning for surgery in his right eye.

Al-Nabhan said during the interview: “I burn from inside, because what the first artistes built has now collapsed, and our last hope is to support the theatrical movement in Kuwait and cutting the chimps will undo the welding.”

Al-Nabhan pointed out that the time of the fifties and sixties until the mid-seventies was the bright time for the Kuwaiti theater, explaining that at that time there were four theaters and in every theater no less than 6 or 7 female artistes participated and the audience did not object to the female roles in the theater due to the awareness and culture of the Kuwaiti audience at that time.

He noted that the theater work that wins the theater festivals is supposed to be offered to the public for free, until the new generation and the largest numbers of audiences are educated.

He explained that four theaters were established in Kuwait, after the issuance of the Law of Public Benefit Associations, noting that the financial support from the government to the theater does not exceed 15 thousand dinars, while NGOs are supported by 30 thousand dinars, which led to the weakening of the theatrical movement, because the theater requires larger expenses.

Al-Nabhan asserted that his role in society requires him to help and support the youth and the new generation in the theater, considering that this is their right to have those who support them.
