Joint panel arrests 175 law violators in Jleeb campaigns, 76 deported – report
Company found charging $5,000 to bring in expats
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 19: The joint committee which was formed to follow up the ‘condition’ of the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area said the authorities were able to arrest 175 people for violating work conditions and that 76 of them have been deported within one month, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting informed sources.
The same sources said during the ongoing security checks the concerned official have issued citations 172 against people they called ‘hawkers’.
The sources indicated that the subcommittee for controlling violations in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area closed 388 unlicensed stores between Nov 15 and Dec 15, 2019.
The sources added the Farwaniya Municipality branch participated in the committee work its cleanliness, road works, auditing and follow-up services departments in addition to the department which is in charge of removing encroachments from government land.
Also taking part were the engineering, audit and follow-up department which helped clear the area of waste such as construction material, scrap, used furniture and damaged tyres.
Human trafficking: Investigations conducted with an unidentified general trading and contracting company confirmed the company officials received about $5,000 in exchange for bringing expatriates from their countries and leaving them on the street to fend for themselves without providing them jobs, reports Al-Anba daily quoting a security source.
The Criminal Investigation Department is preparing to refer officials of that company to the Kuwaiti judiciary after accusing the company of human trafficking as a prelude to starting legal procedures against them.
A security source said Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) following the death of an Egyptian expatriate who jumped to his death from the tenth floor of a workers’ residence in the Ahmadi Governorate, opened an investigation into the fall and summoned a number of the friends of the deceased, and to its surprise PAM officials discovered each one of them had paid between 1,500 to 1,700 dinars in exchange for jobs in Kuwait but were left alone to look for ‘loose’ jobs.
The source added the Criminal Investigation Department was notified by PAM to complete investigations with the workers and officers confirmed that they were lured from their homeland by contracts, which they later discovered were a fake.
Escapee arrested: Police have arrested the unidentified Kuwaiti who had allegedly escaped after assaulting a traffic officer, reports Al-Rai daily.
The officer had complained that the young Kuwaiti was recklessly driving sports car in the Farwaniya province endangering the lives of other motorists and pedestrians and when the former tried to stop him, the young man got out of his car, attempted to assault the officer and drove off. However, to the bad luck of the young man, his wallet fell on the ground.
The wallet contained his civil ID and the young man, allegedly sent one of his friends to get his wallet, but the request was rejected.
The young man has been taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters for taking the legal action against him.
