JACKSONVILLE, Florida, Dec 19, (AP): The Jacksonville Jaguars have fired Tom Coughlin as executive vice-president of football operations, parting ways with the two-time Super Bowl-winning coach a little more than a day after the NFL Players Union took a sledgehammer to his reputation.

Owner Shad Khan made the announcement Wednesday, saying he decided earlier this season that Coughlin would be gone at the end of the season. Khan said he reconsidered the timing in “recent days.”

The NFL Players Association said this week that than 25% of player grievances filed in the last two years have been against the Jaguars. The takeaway from the union: “You as players may want to consider this when you have a chance to select your next club.” him out Sunday when the Cowboys try to qualify for the playoffs at Philadelphia.

The Cowboys and Eagles are tied for the NFC East lead at 7-7, and Dallas advances to the postseason with a victory.

Prescott didn’t throw during the portion of practice that was open to reporters Wednesday. Coach Jason Garrett said Prescott had an MRI and “everything seems to be OK.”

Former NFL star Deltha O’Neal has been charged with felony drunken driving in connection with an August high-speed crash that seriously injured him and a passenger, Florida court records show. O’Neal, 42, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.16 after the Aug 7 crash that left the former Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals cornerback with a concussion, broken ankle and internal injuries, according to a Palm Beach County arrest affidavit made public this week. That bloodalcohol level is twice the legal limit for driving in Florida.

Bengals receiver A.J. Green decided not to try to play in the team’s last two games because he hasn’t fully recovered from ankle surgery during training camp.

The Bengals’ most accomplished player said Wednesday he expects to be fully healed in the offseason, when he can be a free agent. He said he’s not sure whether he’ll stay in Cincinnati after nine years, and he won’t participate in offseason workouts if the Bengals use their franchise tag on him.

Tired about speculation over his future, Browns star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr said Wednesday he doesn’t want to leave Cleveland after one frustrating season.

Beckham dismissed reports that he’s unhappy with the Browns and said he’s committed to helping the team win. “It’s done. It’s over with,” he said of the speculation. “I’m not going anywhere. I’ll be here. We’re going to figure this thing out. It’s just too special to leave.”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowl receiver Mike Evans and safety Jordan Whitehead will miss the remainder of the season because of hamstring injuries. The Buccaneers placed both players on injured reserve Wednesday, when the team also announced that receiver Spencer Schnell was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster.

The Chicago Bears placed inside linebacker Danny Trevathan on injured reserve Wednesday because of a left elbow injury.

Trevathan has not played since Nov 10, when his arm bent awkwardly as he tried to sack Jeff Driskel in a win over Detroit. The team leader at the time with 50 tackles, Trevathan ran off with his arm dangling by his side, His future is uncertain. Tevathan has an expiring contract and has finished two of the past four seasons on injured reserve.
