KUWAIT CITY, Jan 15: The Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Faisal AlHarbi, overturned the ruling to sentence a citizen and his children to 10 years in jail in absentia for obtaining citizenship fraudulently, resulting in their acquittal.

Lawyer for the accused, Attorney Ali Al-Asfour, presented substantial evidence in court in favor of his clients; thereby, clearing the name of the citizen and his children.

According to the case file, the Public Prosecution charged the citizen and his children with forging official documents in order to obtain citizenship. The prosecution argued the defendant carried out the fraudulent act with the intention of deceiving the relevant authority in approving his application for citizenship and that of his children.

‘Dangerous act’: The Jahra security officers have detained a young man who is believed to be in his 30s for allegedly committing a dangerous act, causing the vehicle he was driving to overturn and severely damage it, reports Al-Anba daily.

This happened after the Operations Room of the Ministry of Interior received a report that a vehicle had overturned near a roundabout and had caught fire upon impact.

However, sources say an electrical fault may have probably caused the salon car to overturn and go up in flames.

No one was injured in the accident but traffic movement was disrupted for some time. The accident happened on the Fifth Ring Road opposite Andalus.

Firemen and police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Drugs found on Asian: Customs officers assigned in Terminal Five at Kuwait International Airport foiled an Asian’s attempt to smuggle around one kilogram of hashish from his home country.

One of the officers suspected the Asian as he appeared agitated while approaching the luggage check counters. This has prompted the officer to check the suspect’s luggage thoroughly, leading to the discovery of 159 packs of hashish with an estimated total weight of one kilogram.

The accused and the contraband were referred to the concerned authorities for further investigation.

Security increased: Border security authorities have increased security monitoring on the northern borders of Kuwait after noticing two Iraqi citizens attempting to infiltrate Kuwait, says AlSeyassah.

According to security sources, officers noticed the two suspects attempting to infiltrate Kuwait but returned back into Iraq after realizing they were seen by the Kuwaiti border security officials.

Iraqi border officials have been notified about the incident, and coordination is ongoing between the two authorities to increase security monitoring of the borders.
