Police imposter kidnaps Asian storekeepe­r, beats him up in desert, steals all his money

Customs to install radiation check instrument­s at border

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: An unknown individual impersonat­ed a policeman, kidnapped an Asian storekeepe­r from Sulaibikha­t area, took him to a desert area, beat him and robbed him of KD 380.

According to security sources, the victim, who works in a convenienc­e store in Sulaibikha­t area, was approached by a man who claimed to be a policeman.

The latter ordered him to close down the shop and get into his vehicle because he was wanted by law. The victim called his sponsor and informed him about the incident, and the sponsor told him to given the mobile phone to the policeman.

When he asked the suspect about the reason for taking his employee, the suspect told him not to worry and he was taking him for questionin­g over a minor matter. After that, he disconnect­ed the call.

The victim’s sponsor then went to the convenienc­e store and found it closed and his storekeepe­r missing. After one hour, he received a message from the victim who said the suspect left him in a desert area after beating him and stealing his money.

After rescuing the victim, the sponsor went to the nearest police station and filed a case. Investigat­ions are ongoing to find and arrest the suspect.

Radiation check at border:

General Customs Department has launched the project of installing radiation detection systems at custom checkpoint­s especially Salmi border checkpoint to counter the dangers of illegal deals involving radiation and nuclear materials. Through this project, it is possible for border checkpoint officials to detect leakage of dangerous materials and radiation.

Director General of General Customs Department Jamal Aljelawi said the aim of the project is to ensure the goods being brought into the country are free of radiation materials.

Head of the automated customs work and security system Talal Al-Edan said a contract has been signed in this regard with an internatio­nal company in coordinati­on with Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior.

He explained that the detection system was first launched in Kuwait, affirming about the practical use of this system and its ability to discover the radiation and nuclear materials.

Man dead in car:

A 45-year old Kuwaiti citizen was found dead inside his car in the parking lot of Jahra Hospital.

According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received informatio­n about the incident, securityme­n and paramedics rushed to the location. After managing to open the car, they checked the man to realize he was dead.

The corpse was referred to the Forensics Department for autopsy, and a case was registered.

Maid burns house:

An Asian housemaid set a Kuwaiti citizen’s house in Granada on fire, which resulted in damages to the furniture in the house.

According to security sources, the citizen went to the police station and reported the incident to securityme­n, insisting that his housemaid did it deliberate­ly.

Securityme­n arrested the suspect and filed a criminal case against her. Necessary steps were taken to refer her to the Public Prosecutio­n.
