Feb 2. (AP) MOUNT MAUNGANUI, New Zealand, Feb 2, (AP): Master finisher Jasprit Bumrah took 3-12 from four overs as India beat New Zealand by seven runs in the fifth Twenty20 cricket internatio­nal Sunday to sweep the five-match series 5-0.

For the third match in a row New Zealand seemed to be coasting to victory before India, led by Bumrah, dragged themselves back into the match and won in a gripping finish.

India made 163-3 batting first, a moderate total in good batting conditions, and New Zealand was 116-3 in the 13th over before it again self-destructed and lost six wickets for 40 runs to finish 1569 after 20 overs.

Kuwait Club’s volleyball team continuing with their preparatio­ns for the

championsh­ip.

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: The higher organizing committee of the 37th GCC Volleyball Clubs Championsh­ip for Men has completed the final touches to the preparatio­ns for this event, which is due to be held on Feb 4-11 at the Kuwait Sports Club Hall.

According to a press release, six clubs are due to participat­e in the championsh­ip - Al-Kuwait (Kuwait), Al-Sayyib (Oman), Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Qatari Police (Qatar), Dar Al-Kuleib (Bahrain), and Al-Ain (the United Arab Emirates).

The organizing committee for the GCC Volleyball Championsh­ip assigned the task of organizing the championsh­ip to the Kuwait Sports Club after its absence of many years due to the sports ban that was imposed on the State of Kuwait.

A member of the organizing committee and the Secretary of the Volleyball Federation Fawzi Al-Maatouq affirmed his great confidence in the success of the management of the Kuwait Sports Club in hosting and organizing the GCC volleyball championsh­ip.

TOKYO, Feb 2, (AP): Tokyo cut the ribbon on another new Olympic venue on Sunday, just under six months ahead of the games’ opening.

This time it was the Ariake Arena alongside Tokyo Bay, the venue for Olympic volleyball and wheelchair basketball at the Paralympic­s.

Only one new venue remains to be inaugurate­d. That’s the new swimming arena that will be ready in the next month.

Eight of the new permanent venues are being built by the Tokyo Metropolit­an Government. The new $1.43 billion reply.

There have been no deaths reported in Japan from the viral outbreak in China.

Koike speaks Arabic and English and well as Japanese, but her staff did not allow a question in English.

“During this weekend, Tokyo Metropolit­an Government officials including a vice-governor and related section directors have been discussing how to prevent the infection from spreading and establish effective testing systems in order to protect Tokyo residents’ safety and security,” she said, speaking in Japanese.

Koike warned last week about the danger of the virus as she spoke in Japanese to the heads of 62 municipali­ties.

“We must firmly tackle the new coronaviru­s to contain it, or we are going regret it,” she said.

Tokyo organizers and the Switzerlan­d-based Internatio­nal Olympic Committee both issued statements on Friday aimed at quashing rumors the Olympics could be cancelled or postponed.

“We have never discussed cancelling the games,” Tokyo organizers said in a statement to The Associated Press.
