Voter registration committees begin work in line with minister’s decision

‘Abuse of HH the Amir a crime’

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: The voter registration committees have begun their work in line with the recent decision that has been issued by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh to divide, to compose, and locate the voter registration committees, reports Al-Rai daily.

Informed sources told Al-Rai “the committees have started examining the voter lists to add the names of those eligible, those whose names were unlawfully eliminated from the previous lists and delete the names of the deceased and those who have failed to fulfill the conditions or those whose names were incorrectly included and those who have changed their addresses.” The sources revealed the ministries of Interior and Justice are coordinating efforts to delete the names from electoral lists of those who have been convicted by court verdicts for insulting the country, explaining that the Court of Cassation has established a detailed legal principle in the verdict it issued in 2016 affirming that the abuse of the Amir is considered a crime against honor and honesty, by deciding to delete the names of contestants and this was also confirmed by the Constitutional Court in its ruling in 2017 by rejecting the appeal submitted by Bader Al-Dahum whose name was struck off from the electoral lists.

The sources pointed out delisting includes abusive tweeters against whom final verdicts have been issued, in addition to those convicted in the case of storming the National Assembly, and those convicted in the case of repeating the speech of Musallam Al-Barrak (Enough of Frivolity), when the Court of Cassation yesterday upheld the verdict issued against 21 who were sentenced to two years imprisonment and fined two thousand dinars to suspend the sentence, including former deputies and political activists.
