AUK lecture: The Center for Gulf Studies (CGS) at the American University of Kuwait presents a lecture entitled: ‘GCC Countries’ Dreams and Realities’ by HE Ambassador Abdullah Bishara. Date: Wednesday, Feb 5, 2020 Time: 6:00 pm Venue: AUK Campus Auditorium. This is a stamped event. Lecture will be conducted in English.
Abstract: Since the 1980s, GCC countries have worked towards achieving particular goals for the region and for their respective states. What are these goals? What dreams were achieved, and what realities hindered the achievement of some of these plans? This lecture offers insights into past, current, and future GCC countries’ diplomatic strategies and goals by the first Secretary General of the United Nations, HE Ambassador Abdullah Bishara.
Biography: After earning a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from St John’s University, His Excellency Ambassador Abdullah Bishara joined the Kuwait Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his thirty-plus year career at the MoFA, Ambassador Bishara has served as Kuwait’s permanent representative to the United Nations, the chairman of the United Nations Security Council, and the first secretary of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the first secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council. After retiring from the MoFA, Ambassador Bishara continued his involvement with politics and diplomacy in formal and informal capacities. He has also written multiple books, including Kuwait’s Diplomacy Wars, writes weekly for Al Qabas, and has contributed several articles on politics and Economics in English-language periodicals.
