‘Every reason to get annoyed’

- By Ahmad alsarraf e-mail:a.alsarraf@alqabas.com.kw

Anwar is a Kuwaiti academic at the Kuwait University. She is highly qualified and is an outstanding civil engineer. She also works as an assistant manager for the structural program at the university.

Her efficiency is testified by those who worked with her for years, as it happened with me almost a year ago, when I was on an inspection visit of the facilities of the ‘Shaddadiya University’.

Her efficiency was witnessed by those who chaired or presided over her or those over whom she presided in her delicate work. Her efficiency is also witnessed by her distinguished students, and most of them are at Kuwait University. Her firmness is also witnessed by those who implemented the university project, and engineers of the supervision office.

During a television interview Professor Anwar Al-Ibrahim in response to the interviewer’s question when asked what decision she would take if she had to take one, which would have positive repercussions on the university and the society, she said, she would take a decision to cancel the 200 dinars subsidy that is paid to each student and limit the subsidy according to the needs of each student individually and not pay it automatically and equally to everyone.

Professor Anwar also pointed to other important academic questions, but the “Kuwaiti nation”, which uses the same means of communication, because of the lack of rational people among them, and the large number of ridiculous hidden people in them, did not like her opinion, which remains in the end a personal opinion but seized the opportunity to tarnish her image and damage her reputation and her family and made a sharp mockery of her suggestion.

They did all of this only because the matter touches their pockets that should not be touched. Anwar Al-Ibrahim is a free Kuwaiti citizen, and she has the right to express whatever opinions she wants, within the limits set by the law, and she did not exceed her limits, so why is all this fierce attack on her?

Doesn’t this indicate the failure of those who allowed themselves to express their opinions while denying her basic right to express her opinion? Professor and Mrs Anwar, justifying her suggestion, says that it is the way that the majority of students behave in the amount of the benefit that prompted them to express that opinion.

The subsidy is established to meet the urgent need of the male or female students, such as buying books and transportation, and not spending on luxuries and marginal matters. What most of the attackers did not know about and who ‘muffled’ her biography, the biography of her family, and their religious or ethnic background, all with the aim of hurting or exasperating her, they did not know that the subsidy was previously issued by legislation from the National Assembly and can only be canceled by law from the same source, and therefore what she said is merely an opinion, subject to discussion and not for cursing.

Madam, you have every reason to be annoyed, because electronic flies, especially those who hide behind the most ridiculous delusional names, have not shown mercy on anyone, and you are neither the first nor will be the last victims of these bullies.
