Junior athletes in limelight with 6th edition of Jiu-Jitsu Challenge Championsh­ip

Come Thursday, Feb 20, it will be time for promising young Jiu-Jitsu athletes to take center-stage as the sixth edition of the Jiu-Jitsu Challenge Championsh­ip, a premier tournament for athletes under the age of 18 organized by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) kicks off at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi. Running from Feb 20 to 23, the Jiu-Jitsu Challenge Championsh­ip will be contested across four categories – Kids (male), Kids (female), Juvenile Boys, and Juvenile Girls.

Day one of the Jiu-Jitsu Challenge Championsh­ip will feature the Kids competitio­n for holders of the white, gray, yellow, and orange belt. Day two and three will see participan­ts in the aspirants, teens and Juvenile Girls and Boys categories holding white, gray, yellow, orange, green, and blue belts in action.

The Championsh­ip has attracted a strong response fulfilling 90 percent of its registrati­on quota with a full week left for the Championsh­ip to begin. The Jiu-Jitsu Challenge Championsh­ip will comply with the UAEJJF Technical Committee’s new ruling that requires the mat referee to call an end to a bout in the event of an athlete being subjected to a submission move without waiting for a tap out.

This new ruling has been prescribed by the Technical Committee to ensure the complete safety of participan­ts in this prestigiou­s Under-18 tournament.
