‘Retain allowance paid to Kuwaitis studying in KU, PAAET’
Al-Dallal submits queries to finance minister
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 23: Chairman of the parliamentary Educational Affairs Committee MP Dr Ouda Al-Ruwai’e has stressed the need for the government to retain the allowance granted to Kuwaitis studying at Kuwait University and Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET).
On the other hand, a parliamentary source has unveiled the plan of several MPs to submit a proposal to increase the students’ allowance by KD 100.
In another development, the 15 MPs who issued a signed statement after the Feb 18 session in objection to the way Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim managed the session have clarified that none of them called the Speaker to tell him they signed the statement under pressure.
Earlier, Al-Ghanim mentioned in a press statement that nine MPs called him saying they were forced to sign the statement. He was later asked to reveal the names of these MPs and support his statement with evidence.
The MPs who signed the statement include Khalid Al-Otaibi, Abdullah
Al-Kandari, Muhammad Hayef, Hamdan Al-Azmi, Abdullah Fehad, Thamer Al-Suwait, Muhammad Al-Dallal, Al-Humaidi Al-Subai’e, Shuaib AlMuwaizeri, Muhammad Al-Mutair, Adel Al-Damkhi and Osama AlShaheen. These MPs said they foiled the attempt of Al-Ghanim to twist their statement and raise suspicion on their pro-reform course.
Meanwhile, MP Muhammad AlDallal has submitted queries to Finance Minister Barrak Al-Shetan about the decision of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to suspend flights between Kuwait and Iran due to the discovery of coronavirus cases in the latter.
He asked if Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) has coordinated with the ministries of Health and Interior regarding the mechanism for evacuating Kuwaitis, as well as the services that KAC offered to citizens after the discovery of corona virus cases in Iran.
In addition, MP Riyad Al-Adasani announced in a recent press statement his plan to grill Minister of Electricity and Water Muhammad Bushehri on his failure to submit a report about the results of investigations conducted by the committee formed in line with decision Number 39/2019 to the Public Prosecution although the report is ready. He said he will finalize his decision on the grilling after establishing the legal position as some think Bushehri was convicted of a crime against honor, so he should be dismissed from his post while others believe otherwise.
It is worth mentioning that a final court verdict was issued earlier convicting Bushehri of divulging a confidential administrative report.
Moreover, Al-Adasani has forwarded queries to Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Housing Affairs Rana Al-Fares about the results of investigations on the incident in Mutla’a housing project, which led to the death of a number of expatriate laborers.
He inquired about the parties participating in the investigation, procedures taken, and penalties imposed on those responsible for the incident.
He wondered why Al-Fares said in a statement that the project is under the close supervision and monitoring of the ministry. He asked: “Where were the ministry’s close supervision and monitoring before and during the incident?”
