KUWAIT CITY, March 28: Consultations are currently ongoing between the legislative and executive authorities to extend the current period of sessions, as the lawmakers are not able to hold much of its sessions during the current legislative round due to disruption of its activities within the precautionary measures taken by Kuwait at different levels to face the repercussions of the coronavirus outbreak, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to informed sources, there are several laws on the agenda of the parliament that members of the two authorities are waiting to vote on. Some of them have even passed the first reading. There is a parliamentary-governmental agreement on them, but they need a second discussion to refer them to the government. The exact date for reconvening the sessions is unknown, as it depends on the health conditions and the current medical precautions in the country.

The sources said, “The current round is the last for the incumbent parliament. It is scheduled to be dissolved by the end of November, which means extending its term of office means extension of the legislative term of the National Assembly, the constitutional period of which is due to end this year, because the incumbent parliament inaugurated its work in December 2016.”
