Battle against virus rages on

KUWAIT CITY, March 28, (KUNA): Despite stringent preventive measures, more deaths and infections of the novel coronaviru­s (Covid-19) pandemic were reported late Thursday by Qatar, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Turkey and the US.

In Doha, 12 more people tested positive for the illness in the past 24 hours, bringing the overall infections in Qatar to 549.

The newly identified cases include three Qatari nationals who have recently arrived from European countries, Spokespers­on of the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management Lolwah Al-Khater said in a press briefing.

Forty-three patients have recovered and all others are in stable condition, she added.

In Kurdistan region, north Iraq, the health authoritie­s confirmed a new infection, which took to 104 the overall number in the region.

A woman, 56, tested positive for the virus in Sulaymaniy­ah, according to a statement from the Health Ministry of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

In Amman, the confirmed infection cases rose by 40 to 212, the Jordanian Minister of Health Saad Jaber said.

The majority of the new cases – 26 ones, were identified in the northern governorat­e of Irbid, which has gone into lockdown, he said at a joint press conference with Minister of Informatio­n Amjam Al-Adhayleh.

The capital city has 14 cases including five persons who have recently arrived back from abroad, he added.
