15 flights in 1st phase of evacuation of Kuwaitis
FM, WHO chief discuss coronavirus
KUWAIT CITY, April 1, (Agencies): According to the latest statistics on suspected cases of coronavirus infections among the Kuwaiti citizens who were evacuated from overseas in the first phase which ended on Sunday, a total of 192 cases had been referred to institutional quarantine in Sheikh Jaber General Hospital, reports Al-Rai daily quoting health sources.
They explained that medical tests were conducted on those who were evacuated from London. After the tests, 32 cases were referred to Sheikh Jaber Hospital including 11 suspected coronavirus infection cases that were quarantined, 16 cases were referred to the Medical Emergency Unit in the hospital, and five cases were admitted in a ward.
Prior to that, those who were evacuated from Paris were tested. After the tests, 43 cases were referred to Sheikh Jaber Hospital including 15 suspected cases of coronavirus infection that were quarantined, 17 cases were referred to the Medical Emergency Unit in the hospital, and 11 cases were admitted in a ward.
The total number of suspected coronavirus infection cases in the first phase of the evacuation process from last Wednesday to Sunday reached 192. This includes 35 cases among those who returned from Tehran, five cases among those who came from Beirut, 33 from Cairo, four from Bahrain, four from Frankfurt, seven from Spain, 68 from London, 15 from Paris, three from Abu Dhabi, five from Italy, and 13 from New York.
The last two evacuation flights of the first phase had arrived on Monday night from Paris and London. After the Kuwaiti
Airways flight from Paris, which had 210 citizens onboard, arrived, the flight from London with 305 citizens onboard had arrived. These flights were preceded by two Jazeera Airways flights from Tehran with 162 citizens on board.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Saturday announced the arrival of a flight from New York and another from London. The Kuwait International Airport received three planes from Spain, Britain and Italy on Friday. On Wednesday, three flights came from Beirut, Cairo and Bahrain, and on Thursday, three flights arrived from Frankfurt, London and Abu Dhabi. This brought the total number of evacuation flights in the first phase to 15.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Mohammad AlSabah and Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus discussed Tuesday global conditions amidst spread of coronavirus.
Sheikh Ahmad, in his phone call with Ghebreyesus, called anew for collaboration of international efforts to fighting COVID-19 and WHO’s vital role in this regard.
Furthermore, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah on Wednesday called his South Korean counterpart Kang Kyung-wha on close relations between both friendly countries in various fields.
During the phone conversation, both ministers also discussed joint cooperation over response to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) worldwide, the Foreign Ministry said in a press statement.
