Riyadh reports 6 COVID-19 deaths

Two succumb in UAE

RIYADH, April 21, (KUNA): Saudi Arabia reported 6 new coronaviru­s (COVID-19) deaths and 1,122 infections, noting that the rise in the cases numbers in the past few days is due to the active testing operations.

In its daily briefing, the Health Ministry official Spokespers­on, Dr Mohammad Al-Abdulali, said that the death toll from the virus has risen to 103, while the number of infections climbed to 10,484.

He noted that the total number of recoveries have reached 1,400 after confirming 92 new cases.

UAE

The UAE reported two coronaviru­s deaths, and the number of infections up 484 cases, including the recovery of 74 patients.

Emirati Health authoritie­s said in a press briefing, that the total number of fatalities jumped to 43, and the total infections reached 7,265 cases.

Turkey

Turkish Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca said 123 people died due to the novel coronaviru­s to increase fatalities to 2,140, while infections rose to 90,980.

Anadolu news agency quoted Koca as saying 4,674 people tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours.

Koca said 1,454 people recovered from the virus to make their total at 13,430.

He added 1,909 patients were still in the intensive care units.

Iraq

Iraqi Ministry of Health said 35 people tested positive for coronaviru­s to reach 1,574 nationwide, including in the Kurdistan province.

A ministry statement said 13 cases were registered in Baghdad, 12 in Basra, two in Muthanna, and one in each of Al-Najaf and Thi Qar.

It added that 34 people recovered to make total recoveries at 1,043.

Jordan

Jordanian Health Minister Saad Jaber said eight people tested positive for the novel coronaviru­s, all were truck drivers at the border area while no cases were registered inside the Kingdom.

Jaber told a news conference six people recovered to increase recoveries to 282.

He noted that total cases reached 425.

Bahrain

Bahrain decided to reduce the ministries and government agencies’ expenses by 30 percent as part of the Kingdom’s measures to tackle the spread of coronaviru­s.

The Bahraini News Agency (BNA) quoted the Bahraini Cabinet as saying that it decided to reduce the operating expenses budget for ministries and government bodies by 30 percent unless the public interest requires otherwise.

The Cabinet also agreed to reschedule some constructi­on and consulting projects to accommodat­e emerging expenses to address the prevention of the virus spread within the limit of the general expenses budget for the fiscal year 2020.

Bahraini health ministry announced 14 new coronaviru­s infections, while four patients recovered from the disease.

Egypt

The number of people infected with COVID-19 in Egypt has risen by 189 cases with 11 people falling victim to the deadly virus, bringing the total to 3,333 cases and 250 fatalities, health officials said.

The new figures, which come after laboratory tests for the individual­s proved positive, include one foreign national, Ministry of Health and the Population Spokespers­on Khaled Mujahed said in a statement.

Meanwhile, some 821 people have recovered from the virus, he said.

Tunisia

Tunisian Ministry of Health said five people were infected with the novel coronaviru­s to take cases’ tally to 884.

The ministry said it carried out 1,189 tests in the last 24 hours resulting in the discovery of five infections. It added that 148 people recovered from the virus while 38 persons passed away.

Morocco

Moroccan Ministry of Health said 191 people tested positive for the coronaviru­s in the past 24 hours to increase cases to 3,046.

A ministry statement also said two persons died of the virus to take fatalities to 143.

It however said 23 people recovered to reach a total of 350.
