Govt silence over nations refusal to receive their citizens queried

KUWAIT CITY, April 21: MP Muhammad AlHadiya asked the government to reveal the total number of marginal laborers in the country and the plan to deport them.

He inquired about the reason behind the silence of the government over the refusal of some countries to receive their citizens, who violated the Residency Law of Kuwait, despite the fact that they have been exempted from paying fines.

He said the increasing number of coronavirus cases among expatriates indicates that the citizens are more committed to the regulations; hence, the government must take action against the countries which hinder the implementation of a Kuwaiti sovereignty decision to deport violators. He clarified that supporting the efforts exerted by the government does not mean there is no need to rectify shortcomings. “No one among the ministers issued a statement on measures against countries which refused to receive their citizens,” he concluded.

Reacting to the Cabinet’s decision to divulge the identities of those who broke the curfew and home quarantine, MP Mohammad Al-Dallal pointed out the names should not be announced unless they are proven guilty. He asserted the accused is innocent until proven guilty.

In another development, Chairperson of the parliamentary Defense and Interior Affairs Committee MP Askar Al-Anzi called on Minister of Public Works and Director of Kuwait Credit Bank (KCB) Dr Rana Al-Fares to suspend the collection of installments from citizens who obtained loans from the bank; similar to the step taken by the Public Authority for Social Institution (PIFSS).

He also urged Al-Fares to refund the installments collected in April to ease the burdens of citizens in light of the current crisis.
