KUWAIT CITY, April 22: The Women Social and Cultural Society is planning to participate in the “I am Responsible” campaign with nine public benefit societies of civil society organizations to fight corruption and residency trading, and consolidate values of the law, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The association’s Board Chairperson Lulwah Al-Mulla said, “The campaign aims to mobilize national and popular efforts to encourage citizens and residents to report on residency traders in consideration of the current exceptional circumstances. This campaign was launched for activating the national role in combating residency traders who practice the crime of human trafficking which is internationally prohibited and harms the reputation of Kuwait, the country of humanity. This crime has greatly hindered the State’s health efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19 pandemic and has caused a major imbalance in the demographics over the past three decades. It has produced several security, social and economic problems in the labor market”.

She went on to say, “It is time for concerted efforts and enhanced social responsibility to address these crimes such as human trafficking, bribery, exploitation of influence and graft. The campaign seeks to lay the foundations of justice and rule of law and to support those responsible for making the historic decision to eradicate the long-standing corruption crime that tampered with people and sabotaged the demographics”.

Concerning the legislative aspect, Al-Mulla stressed the importance of developing legislations “to reduce this futility and guarantee the rights of workers and employers in accordance with constitutional and humanitarian principles as well as international treaties”.

Regarding the mechanism of monitoring residency traders, she revealed a program “that will be launched later to receive complaints from those affected and to prosecute human traffickers”, referring to research into the possibility of cooperating with the concerned authorities in the country in order to “eliminate this dangerous and inhuman phenomenon”.

The bodies participating in the campaign against residency trading include Kuwait Society for Human Rights, Kuwait Economic Society, Kuwait Bar Association, Women Social and Cultural Society, Kuwait Society of Engineers, Kuwait Society for the Protection of Public Funds, Kuwait Association of Accountants and Auditors, Kuwait Public Relations Association, Kuwait Transparency Society, and Kuwaiti Association of Socialists.
