Al-Ghanim attends 3rd meet of preparatory panel for fifth session of speakers of world parliaments
‘Maj-Gen Al-Sayegh objects opening co-op branch in Mahboula’
KUWAIT CITY, April 22: Through video conferencing, Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouq AlGhanim attended the third meeting of the preparatory committee for the fifth session of the speakers of world parliaments scheduled for August in Vienna.
Al-Ghanim, who represented the Arab Parliaments Group in the meeting, also attended the two meetings held in Geneva earlier.
During the third meeting, AlGhanim confirmed the positions of Arab parliaments on a number of issues included in the agenda for the upcoming session such as climate change, refugees, demographic changes in some countries, and the coronavirus crisis which was added to the agenda recently.
Present at the meeting were speakers of 14 parliaments representing the geopolitical parliamentary groups, Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) President Gabriela Cuevas Barron and Secretary General Martin Chungong.
In another development, MP AlHumaidi Al-Subai’e informed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh that the decision of the ministers of Social Affairs, Commerce and Industry, and Electricity and Water to open a cooperative society branch in Mahboula was not implemented because of the objection of Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Jamal Al-Sayegh for trivial reasons.
He disclosed Al-Sayegh dealt with the issue roughly, without taking into consideration the special circumstances of the disabled and elderly citizens residing in Mahboula. He quoted Al-Sayegh as saying there is no need for a cooperative society branch in Mahboula, and that the residents there can purchase their supplies from the groceries and mobile stores.
He then urged Al-Saleh to visit Mahboula in order to hear complaints directly from the citizens residing in the area.
Meanwhile, MP Abdulkareem Al-Kandari pointed out that if the government is serious in deporting expatriate workers who violated the laws of Kuwait; it must take action against the countries which refused or delayed procedures for receiving their citizens. He said this is not the time for compliments, while suggesting the suspension of loans that Kuwait Fund for Economic Development intends to grant to such countries. He stressed the need to address this issue in light of the current medical and economic circumstances.
Moreover, MP Riyadh AlAdasani forwarded a letter to the Assembly for inclusion in the agenda of the next session. He revealed the letter is a request for the government to submit to the Assembly a detailed report on fraud cases in public institutions over the last five years and procedures taken regarding these cases. He said these cases include fake certificates and providing false information to obtain agricultural plots, among others.
