Detention ‘extended’ for Kuwaiti woman accused of killing spouse

KUWAIT CITY, April 23: The Public Prosecutio­n has decided to extend for another 21 days the detention of a 27year old Kuwaiti woman who is accused of murdering her husband in Masayel area, and ordered her referral to the Central Prison.

According to informed sources, the Public Prosecutio­n team, as part of the investigat­ion process, took the suspect to the crime site at night along with officers from Ministry of Interior. After reaching the site, the suspect started crying, and then explained how she committed the crime.

She had earlier confessed to murdering her husband during a fight between them. She said she left the house and went to her friend’s house in Kabad area.

The victim’s brother discovered the corpse when he visited the victim’s house after his calls were unanswered. He had to break open the door after ringing the bell and knocking the door several times.

Securityme­n later arrested his wife, who confessed to murdering him.

Detention extended:

The Public Prosecutor General has decided to extend the detention of 38 Kuwaiti citizens and expatriate­s for investigat­ion in six human traffickin­g cases and their involvemen­t in financiall­y benefiting from bringing marginal workers from several countries and renewing their residencie­s without providing work to them.

He also decided to extend the detention of an officer of rank “Colonel” from Ministry of Interior and his six Egyptian accomplice­s for further investigat­ion over their involvemen­t in human trade and for receiving money to bring workers from Egypt.

Released on bail:

The Public Prosecutio­n released a Kuwaiti presenter on

KD 1,000 bail after two days in detention. The lady was banned from traveling and detained on the accusation of issuing statements deemed offensive to the Kuwaiti Army in a complaint filed by the Ministry of Interior against her.

Apparently, the accused posted a statement on her social media in violation of Law No. 31/1970 stipulatin­g a minimum of three years imprisonme­nt against any citizen or expatriate who intentiona­lly publishes news or propaganda about the internal situation of the country.

Court to hear appeal:

The Court of Cassation will handle the appeal filed by former MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaie against the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals which sentenced him to seven-year imprisonme­nt for deceiving his former wife into continuing conjugal relations with him.

Al-Tabtabaie appeared at the court hearing along with his defense team, and insisted that the plaintiff’s accusation­s against him are malicious. He affirmed that she is continuing to file cases, complainin­g that she is still his wife.

Earlier the Court of Appeals had upheld the verdict issued by the lower court which had sentenced Waleed AlTabtabai­e to prison.

From the start of investigat­ions, AlTabtabai­e had been denying all accusation­s leveled against him in this regard.

Employee arrested:

Personnel from the Cyber Crime Department of the Criminal Investigat­ion Department have arrested an employee of one of the ministries, who underestim­ated the work of officer students at Saad Al-Abdullah Academy during a checkpoint during partial curfew, reports Al-Rai daily.

The employee posted a video ‘criticizin­g the performanc­e of the ‘officer students’ who are supporting the police force.

Legal measures were taken against the employee.
