KPA showcases Kuwait pioneering experience in Arab food security
PAAAFR keen on supporting producers
KUWAIT CITY, April 26: Director General of Kuwait Ports Authority Sheikh Yusuf AlAbdullah said he was assigned by relevant authorities to coordinate with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States before the spread of coronavirus and to review the Kuwaiti experience in terms of food security, which confirms Kuwait’s leadership in this field, especially in the current period that proves successes of the experiment related to the crisis created by the spread of COVID-19, reports AlAnba daily.
He added the Kuwaiti Ports Authority has been coordinating with Kuwait Flour Mills and Bakeries Company to receive any Arab delegation who has the desire to acquire the necessary expertise in the field of food security and to receive wheat and grain shipment with optimal storage mechanism for them, in addition to identifying the best methods for transporting food grains to factories, then converting grains into baking products and other foodstuffs, and other stages of production such as packaging and distribution.
Al-Abdullah pointed out that at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the port authorities have been communicating in the crisis period to exchange experiences on the best preventive measures against the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, The Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has confirmed that it is in the process of increasing milk subsidy at an unprecedented rate of about 50 percent -- from 80 to 120 fils, in addition to increasing the subsidies for breeders and farmers; while it will proceed with the withdrawal of unproductive agricultural plots once the legal period ends, reports Al-Anba daily quoting an official source.
The source said the PAAAFR is currently coordinating with the concerned authorities to facilitate the exit of veterinarians from Jleeb Al-Shuyouk in order to increase manpower in the field of animal immunization to accomplish the tasks of the breeders quickly and expedite the delivery of subsidies to them.
The source also affirmed the continuation of granting feeds during the month of Ramadan every day -- except Friday and Saturday -- from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. The source added the reduction of feed prices, if approved, will be applied on the most in demand categories -- barley and ‘shawar’.
The source added the PAAAFR is keen on supporting producers for the agriculturists to devote time in maintaining food security in various aspects.
