Nine COVID dead in UAE

Saudis open Qatif

ABU DHABI, April 30, (KUNA): The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention announced nine fatalities due to novel coronaviru­s (COVID-19), raising death toll to 98.

The ministry spokespers­on Dr Amna Al-Shamsi told a press briefing there were 549 new infections with the virus, bringing this Gulf country’s total number of cases up to 11,929.

Some 148 patients have been recovered from the highly contagious virus, raising the total number of recoveries to 2,329, she added.

Al-Shamsi said more than 26,000 new tests were conducted.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior said people could enter and leave Al-Qatif Governorat­e, which has been under lockdown, as of Thursday.

The MoI announced a lockdown on Al-Qatif on March 8 in a bid to contain spread of coronaviru­s.

A ministry source was quoted by the official SPA news agency as saying inhabitant­s of Al-Qatif could move within the governorat­e from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia on reported five fatalities due to the novel coronaviru­s, taking the Kingdom’s death toll to 157 so far.

The number of infections with the highly contagious respirator­y disease shot up by 1,325 to 21,402 since the outbreak of the deadly bug in the Kingdom, the Saudi Health Ministry’s Spokesman Mohammad Al-Abdulali said in a daily news briefing.

In addition, a total 169 patients have been cured of the COVID-19, raising the count of recoveries to 2,953, while 125 others are still languishin­g in intensive care units, the spokesman added.

Bahrain

The novel coronaviru­s infected 58 more people in Bahrain over the last 24 hours, announced the Ministry of Health.

The fresh cases include 50 expatriate workers, seven due to close contacts with previously unveiled patients and one coming from abroad, the ministry said in a press statement.

Some 60 patients have recovered from the globally spreading disease, bringing the Kingdom’s total number of recoveries up to 1,370 so far, the ministry added.

Out of the total count, 1,489 cases are in stable condition while two patients are in intensive care, it noted.

The death toll of the deadly bug in Bahrain still stands at eight fatalities.

Qatar

Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health announced that 643 more people have tested positive for the novel coronaviru­s in the past 24 hours.

This raises overall number of positive COVID-19 cases in Qatar up to 12,564, the ministry said in a press statement.

It reported that 109 COVID-19 patients have fully recovered in the last twenty-four hours, bringing the total number of recovered cases to 1,243 cases.

There are 11,311 active cases under treatment. So far, 10 people died from the coronaviru­s in Qatar, the ministry said, adding that it had conducted 2,808 tests in last 24 hours taking the total tests done so far up to 91,415.
