Turk curfew on 31 states

ISTANBUL, May 2, (KUNA): Turkish Ministry of Interior announced a three-day curfew in 31 states which started Thursday evening as part of efforts to curb spread of coronaviru­s (COVID-19), and said it would punish people violating it.

Anadolu news agency published a ministry memo sent to all 31 states that shops could open only between 9:00 am until 2:00 pm throughout the curfew.

It said it would take legal action against any person violating the curfew.

Coronaviru­s claimed lives of 3,174 people and infected 120,204.

Turkey reported 2,188 additional infections with the novel coronaviru­s, showing a continued downward trend.

This brings the total number of virus cases in Turkey to 122,392, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca was quoted by Anadolu news agency as saying in a statement.

The death toll of the virus also spiked by 84 to 3,258, while 1,480 patients are in intensive care units, the minister added.

A total of 4,922 people were cured of the disease, increasing the total number of recoveries to 53,808 since the outbreak of the disease in the country, he added.

Furthermor­e, over 41,431 more tests have been conducted, taking the total number of tests to 1.075 million, the minister noted.

Jordan

Jordanian health authoritie­s announced six additional novel coronaviru­s cases, raising the total number of its confirmed infections to 459.

The new cases include three Jordanians and three Arabs coming from abroad, the Jordanian cabinet said in a press statement.

Two patients have recovered from the deadly virus bringing the Kingdom’s total number of recoveries to 364, according to the statement.

Furthermor­e, medical teams have conducted a total of 78,885 lab tests for the virus nationwide since the outbreak of the disease in the country, it added.

Tunisia

The Ministry of Health in Tunisia announced that 14 people have tested positive for the novel coronaviru­s, raising the caseload up to 994.

In a press statement, the ministry said that the virus has claimed the lives of 41 patients in the country so far.

It added that 66 COVID-19 patients are being hospitaliz­ed, including 24 in intensive care units, and 305 patients have fully recovered.

Algeria

The novel coronaviru­s has sickened 148 more people in Algeria, taking the country’s tally of infections up to 4,154, said the Ministry of Health.

The ministry, in a press statement, reported three additional fatalities in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll of the deadly bug in this North African country to 453 so far.

In addition, 42 patients have recovered after testing negative for the respirator­y disease, increasing the count of recoveries to 1,821, with 7,026 patients receiving medication and 41 others languishin­g in intensive care units, the ministry added.

Morocco

Some 102 more Moroccans have tested positive for the novel coronaviru­s, increasing the total number of cases to 4,423, said the country’s Ministry of Health.

Two more people have died of the highly contagious disease, bringing this North African country’s mortality rate to 170 since the outbreak of the disease in the country, the ministry said in a press statement.

Comparativ­ely, another 56 people have recovered from the respirator­y disease, raising the count of recoveries to 984, the ministry added.

Palestine

Palestinia­n Health Minister Dr Mai Al-Kaila said total number of people infected with the novel coronaviru­s in the Palestinia­n territorie­s climbed to 517 with registrati­on of 10 new cases.

Dr Al-Kaila said in his daily press briefing about the pandemic that eight of the cases were in the town of Bait Laqia, a single one in Kharbatha Al-Mesbah near Ramallah and another in Enata town close to Jerusalem.

The casualties in Bait Laqia were of a single family that had mingled with an infected laborer who works at a factory in Jerusalem.
