MoCI is responsible for pricing rationed mask at 150 fils: MoH

Bid to prevent unlicensed price hikes

KUWAIT CITY, May 2: Ministry of Health is not responsible for the pricing of 150 fils for the face masks distributed to citizens in ration branches, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that the top entity responsible for pricing the masks is the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The role of Ministry of Health in this regard is to inform Ministry of Commerce and Industry about shortage of masks in the local market and the need to fill this shortage.

Ministry of Health had sent an official letter to Ministry of Commerce and Industry to demand that the price of a mask should not exceed 150 fils in the pharmacies, approved sales centers and points of sale via websites in order to prevent any unlicensed price hikes.

The sources stated that the price set by Ministry of Health for masks at the sales centers differs from that in the ration branches, as it is supposed to be subsidized by the state due to which the price does not reach 150 fils.

The Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) has distributed 1,000 food packages and 250 frozen chicken boxes to residents and workers in the coronavirus locked down area of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh in Farwaniya Governorate.

Each package contains a variety of basic foodstuff sufficient to feed a family of five members for a month, KRCS Director General Abdulrahman Al-Oun told KUNA.

He pointed out that the KRCS is keen on supporting the government’s efforts to control the novel coronavirus spread and to help citizens and residents who are affected by the lockdown and other preventive measures.

The KRCS is also coordinating with the Ministry of Interior to distribute readymade meals and food parcels to tradesmen and itinerant workers in the fully isolated districts of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and AlMahboula.

The heavily populated areas of Jleeb Al Shuyoukh and Mahboula, where predominantly expatriate laborers live, have been placed in complete isolation since April 6 after being emerged as hotspots for the coronavirus.
