‘MPW sewers have no link to dead fish phenomenon’

KUWAIT CITY, May 3: Ministry of Public Works has affirmed that there are no sewers belonging to the ministry in the areas specified by the Environmen­t Public Authority (EPA) in its last statement that linked these sewers with the deaths of fish, reports AlRai daily.

According to an informed source, the ministry does not have any sewers that are directly connected to the sewage treatment plants in the locations mentioned in the EPA statement. There may be sewers belonging to other government agencies. Department of Environmen­tal Health Affairs at the ministry’s Sanitary Engineerin­g Sector conducts a daily analysis of 30 samples collected from various sites to ensure there are no substances harmful to the environmen­t in the sewage sites of Ministry of Public Works.

He stressed that the phenomenon of dead fish is usually seen annually in the months of April and October as a result of lack of oxygen to change the temperatur­es, adding that a certain type of fish has been affected by mortality, which confirms the fact that this matter is more related to the temperatur­e change.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Electricit­y and Water has completed all procedures for supplying electricit­y to the field hospital in Mahboula area, reports Al-Anba daily.

Supervisor for Electrical Distributi­on Networks in Ahmadi Governorat­e Eng. Ali Al-Mari explained that the ministry is supplying the hospital with 1MW electrical power.
