MoH undersecretary seeks probe in death of nurse
KUWAIT CITY, May 5: Board Chairman of Kuwaiti Nursing Association Bandar Al-Enezi urged Ministry of Health Undersecretary Dr Mustafa Reda to open a comprehensive investigation into the death of a nurse in Sabah Health District due to coronavirus, dismissal of the person responsible for this incident and referring him to the Public Prosecution to take legal measures against him, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
In a press statement confirming news published by the daily entitled, “18 coronavirus infections among Sabah Health District nurses, one of whom died in the accommodation after four days of suffering, ”Al-Enezi pointed out the responsible person underestimated what the Filipino nurse went through and caused her death after being infected with coronavirus. This should not be tolerated, he asserted.
“It is unfortunate that one of the nursing personnel died this way due to lack of protection and medical care. We call on the undersecretary to open a thorough investigation into this painful incident. I hope the person who was responsible will be dismissed or referred to the prosecution,” he added.
He said “the officials who are part of the Preventive Health, Nursing and Ambulance Team know the case of the nurse who died recently as a result of staying in the nurses’ residence for a period exceeding three days. All of them are aware that she was infected with the virus.”
He disclosed, “I tried to communicate with those I mentioned before her death but they did not make any move except telling the nurse: ‘If you have severe symptoms, call ambulance.’ Her condition worsened suddenly. Her heart stopped beating and three other nurses assisted her to the hospital with CPR.
One of them is confined at the intensive care unit because she was confirmed to be infected with the virus; while the others were asked to stay in the nurses’ accommodation and isolate themselves from the rest of their colleagues.”
