Egyptian residence law violators set to leave within 24 hours after ‘riots’

Travelers thank Kuwait for providing all their needs

KUWAIT CITY, May 6: In less than 24 hours following the riots by Egyptians who are living in the Kabd Shelter, the authoritie­s in Cairo organized two trips and evacuated 596 people from Kuwait mainly the elderly, women, children and sick people. They are part of the 5,600 residence law violators, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The spokespers­on for the Directorat­e-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Eng. Saad AlOtaibi, said the DGCA received requests to operate two daily flights a day to Egypt until all Egyptian residence law violators are evacuated. The Egyptian embassy in Kuwait put the number of flights at 32.

The regional director of ‘Egypt Air’ in Kuwait, Ehab Jouda said the company organized two trips to Cairo and works in coordinati­on with all concerned authoritie­s in the two countries to address the situation of the violators and put at rest the issue as quickly as possible.

Speaking of the cost of deportatio­n, informed sources told the daily the price of a single ticket is 110 dinars that Kuwait will pay the money to Egypt Air, which will be tasked with the evacuation of the violators. The total amount of ‘repatriati­ng’ the violators is expected to be KD 715,000, in addition to the value of fines that have been dropped and the costs of lodging, boarding and transporta­tion.

The Ministry of Interior has transporte­d the violators from shelters in air-conditione­d buses to the Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport amid security regulation and health preventive measures without any significan­t problems.

Informed sources confirmed the deportees were subjected to medical examinatio­n to ensure that they are free of the virus, in addition to taking all preventive measures, as it is not allowed to allow departure of a single person with anyone who is infected with the virus.

The Egyptian violators have expressed their gratitude and thanked the government of Kuwait for providing and meeting all their needs starting from handing themselves over to the reception centers transporti­ng them to the airport.

In a related developmen­t, Egyptian Cabinet Spokesman, Counselor Nader Saad announced in a televised interview that the Egyptian government will bear the expenses of evacuation trips for Egyptians from their shelters, indicating there is a plan developed by the Egyptian government to place the arrivals in mandatory quarantine.

He pointed 7 university hostels have been prepared to accommodat­e the returnees from Kuwait for 14 days, and the preparatio­n of medical teams to accompany them during the mandatory period.
