Minister urged to rectify decision on loan payment postponement

MEW officials awaiting results of swabs taken from 270 employees

KUWAIT CITY, May 9: Legal sources say the decision issued by the Cabinet last week about postponement of payment of loan installments of Kuwait Credit Bank for a period of six months does not apply to many citizens, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

They stressed that there is a legal problem with this decision as it does not include owners of government housing provided by Public Authority for Housing Welfare.

They urged the Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Housing Affairs Dr. Rana AlFares to rectify the decision and expand the beneficiary base to include Kuwaiti owners of government houses.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) officials are waiting for the results of swabs taken from 270 employees last Tuesday in order to take the appropriate decision – whether to resume work on Sunday or extend the lockdown, reports Al-Seyassah quoting reliable sources.

Sources said the employees are anxiously waiting for the results, especially since more than one tested positive for coronavirus.

Sources added the employees are calling for intensified precautionary measures, considering several workers at Doha West Power Station were found to be infected with the virus several weeks ago.

In a related development, sources revealed the closure of the ministry delayed the completion of performance evaluation sheets of employees for the year 2019 in preparation for the payment of excellent performance bonus after Eid Al-Fitr. Sources affirmed the concerned ministry officials were keen on limiting the number of employees in the last few days to prevent further spread of the virus among them.
