More than 100 visa traders under intensive probe in central prison

Concrete evidence sought to nail suspects

KUWAIT CITY, May 9: Attorney General Dhirar Al-Asousi has formed a team of comprising members from the Public Prosecutio­n which works day and night interrogat­ing the more than 100 visa traders, which the authoritie­s say almost all of them are convinced of traffickin­g in human beings and are currently cooling their heels inside the Central Prison, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The daily added, a few others who are still being investigat­ed await the same fate.

An informed source told the daily most of the investigat­ions are carried out at night and the investigat­ions are carried out under the watchful eye of the AttorneyGe­neral himself.

The daily added, the interrogat­ors are looking at concrete evidences to nail the suspects which the sources say, require great efforts in light of attempts exerted by the accused to evade involvemen­t.

The source pointed out the total number of visa traders has risen to 35. This number is unpreceden­ted in all previous annual statistics, bearing in mind that these crimes are recorded in the first half of the year 2020.

The Public Prosecutio­n received two cases related to human traffickin­g and visa trading, and has decided to detain those accused to conduct investigat­ions.

According to sources, the number of such cases has reached 37 since the launch of the campaign against human traffickin­g and visa trading.

The Criminal Court recently decided to release 3 Syrians on KD 200 bail each after they were charged with financing terrorism and money laundering.

An unidentifi­ed man died when his vehicle collided with a cement mixer that was speeding near a project site.

In a press release, Public Authority for Housing Welfare explained that firefighte­rs and securityme­n rushed to the location along with the workers at the project site and concerned officials from the company in charge of the project. The corpse of the deceased was referred to the Forensics Department. Necessary action was taken thereafter.
